YOUTH CLASSES
How Do Class Levels Work at DXP?
Preschool, Intro and Level 1 classes are solely age-based. We DO have Level 1 classes for dancers ages 9+yr. Dancers must be the class' minimum age by the first day of the summer session OR October 1st during the school year session. -Preschool & Intro Level classes: age based 2-6yrs -Level 1 classes: age based 6-8yrs OR 9+yrs (ages for older students vary by session) -Advanced Level 1 - Level 5 classes: ability based -Pointe: all dancers must receive instructor approval
As students get older, they are divided into classes based on dance ability. Students should always be taking class at a level that is enjoyable, safe for their body and non-frustrating, but also challenging, educational and inspiring. It is rare that a student will advance to a new level each year. Most students will take the same level 2-3 years and will get exposure to new skills the first year and gain mastery of skills in future years until they are ready to confidently and safely advance.
How Do I Choose a Class Level at DXP?
Danced at DXP during previous Fall-Spring? Enrolling For Summer Preschool, Intro & Level 1 classes are age-based all year. Levels 1+ register for the same level taken during the previous regular school year as advancements take place in the Fall. Enrolling for Next Fall-Spring Classes Preschool, Intro & Level 1 classes are age-based all year. All students will be emailed their recommended class levels in April of the previous regular school year. These recommendations are also available at either DXP front desk.
New to DXP or Returning After a Break? Communicate with DXP desk staff in-studio or via phone/email to determine the appropriate class level for your dancer. Preschool, Intro & Level 1 classes are age-based all year.
SPECIAL NOTE
If a student is new to Dance Xplosion she/he typically begins in a lower level and moves up as the instructors and Director deem appropriate. It is always better for a child’s self-esteem to move up rather than to be moved down. However... if moving down a level will best suit the needs of the dancer, this decision is subject to the discretion of the instructor and the Studio.
POINTE CLASSES
In order to take Pointe at Dance Xplosion you must receive instructor approval AND you must take Pointe in conjunction with a general ballet class. Everyone must receive approval, even if you have previously been on pointe at another studio. This is for the dancers' safety.
ADULT CLASSES
Dance Xplosion's Adult Classes are taught at an "Open Level" which means that dancers of varying levels are encouraged to attend. Our teachers provide individual instruction during class that is appropriately challenging for each dancer.
